iPhone and iPad

Safari
  1. Open thepaperkeep.com in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up), at the bottom of the screen on iPhone or the top on iPad.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen. You may need to scroll down the list to find it. Then tap Add.
  4. Open The Paper Keep from your home screen and sign in once. The installed app keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari.

On recent iOS versions, Chrome and other iPhone browsers also offer Add to Home Screen from their share menu.

Android

Chrome
  1. Open thepaperkeep.com in Chrome and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings → Phone app and tap Install the app. If the button doesn't appear, open Chrome's ⋮ menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
  3. Open The Paper Keep from your home screen or app drawer. Touch and hold the icon for shortcuts to Upload and Search.

Samsung Internet, Edge and Firefox on Android can add it to the home screen too, from their own menus.

Share receipts to The Paper Keep on Android

Android only

Once installed on Android, The Paper Keep shows up in the share sheet, so you can send it receipts from other apps.

  1. In Photos, Files, Gmail or a shopping app, tap Share on a receipt photo or PDF. You can select several at once.
  2. Choose Paper Keep. The app opens and adds each file, then shows a link to every new receipt.

Accepted files are the same as for uploads: JPEG, PNG, WebP, PDF and HEIC, up to 20 MB each. If you're signed out when you share, the files wait on your phone until you sign in. iPhone doesn't allow web apps in its share sheet. On iPhone, use Upload in the app, or forward the email.

Paper receipts

  1. Open the app and tap Upload in the menu (or use the Upload shortcut on Android).
  2. Tap the drop zone and choose Take Photo (iPhone) or Camera (Android).
  3. Tap Upload Receipt. The vendor, date, total and line items are filled in for you a few seconds later.

Receipts from your inbox don't need the phone at all. Once an inbox is connected or forwarding is set up, they arrive on their own.

Questions

Is this a "real" app? It's the same Paper Keep you use in the browser, running full screen with its own icon. There's nothing to update. You get new features as soon as they ship.

Does it work offline? No. Your receipts stay on our servers, not on your phone, so you need a connection to see them. If you're offline, the app says so instead of showing a browser error.

Does it store my receipts on my phone? No. Receipt pages and files aren't cached on the device. The only exception is a file you've shared on Android that hasn't been uploaded yet.

How do I remove it? Delete it like any other app: touch and hold the icon, then remove it. Your account and receipts aren't affected.
